Fun with Scintillating Scotomas
If you don't know what a scintillating scotoma is, you are really missing out. Let me tell you. What it is: an aura, a precursor to a migraine. Sometimes there isn't a migraine. It's just the aura. It's a very bright, flashing, shimmering, zig-zaggy pattern that starts in the center of my field of vision and spreads out until it covers my entire field of vision and then slowly disappears. Anyway, there are many links available to explain this, but since my vision is all distorted right now, I am not going to link any becuase I might inadvertently link some porn or something. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!)
Anyway, I normally get one per month maximum. When I went to Las Vegas in March, I got two in the same week and three total that month. All of them happened right before I got the flu. Right now I am having the second one of the day. The DAY. Two within an hour of each other.
It's really freaking me out! I'm curious if anyone else gets them. I know WeeBee gets them but I don't know how frequently. Send me more comment love, especially if know what the hell I'm talking about!
Oh, yeah. And happy 05/05/05!

Arrgh! I get them too - usually hormone related - once a month. But with this pregnancy? It's been almost a weekly occurance, and the worse part is there's nothing I can take for it. The only cure has been to sleep it off in a cool dark, unscented room.

Had one today. First one in three years. Always freaks me out. Starts with small zigzag and increases in size--left eye only. No pain but mild pressure in head. Occasional Sharp shooting pain that last a brief sec. Seen by eye specialist and had MRI's--normal. Happens most of the time while driving--almost caused an accident. Hope the next one doesn't happen for another 3 years.
