News Flash: Canadians Speak English

First of all, thank you all for your kind words and your thoughts and prayers yesterday. This morning, three little birds told me that every little thing’s gonna be alright.

Now for something completely different. (*Picks self up from depths of despair and dusts off behind*)

I have a friend (woo hoo!), who I will call WeeBee until she protests or I think of a better name for her. WeeBee is married to GeeBee and they are from Canada. They are both really cool, and also they have exquisite taste in friends.

Anyway, I couldn’t resist posting this excerpt from her email to me yesterday. Just when I thought Americans were getting slightly smarter (maybe it's just me) someone told her that...

He was astonished by how well I speak English considering I am Canadian and all.

I told him that we speak English in Canada but then he said, "I know, but you speak it so well, like Americans."

Brilliant, eh? Americans make me laugh.

gawd. it's sad that so many Americans are just clueless when it comes to the rest of the world.

these same doofuses probably think that Bush is well liked, worldwide.

Ah....okay. In my humble opinion, American's aren't so hot as speaking English, anyway. My international students always blow away the native-English speakers on papers. Americans make me laugh, too.

There's a Canadian show called, "Talking To Americans". The host travels through the US and asks the American people to comment on various made-up Canadian issues, such as: Should Canada re-elect President Poutine? First off - we have a Prime Minister, not a President, secondly his last name is Chretien - poutine is french fries with cheese curds and gravy on them. It's hilarious. Anyways, here are some more examples: Talking to Americans

C-Girl: Prime Minister Paul Martin. Chretien is sooooo last season. May fave Talking To Americans was the one when Canada voted to adopt the 24 hour clock. About time. ;-)
